In the opening chapter of the Gospel of John, the author adopted a phrase that appeared
frequently in the Old Testament and applies it to Jesus. This phrase was “Mercy and
truth.” In Hebrew, it is “Hesed va emet.” “The Living Expression became a man and lived
among us! And we gazed upon the splendor of His glory, the glory of the One and Only
who came from the Father overflowing with tender mercy and truth!” (John 1:14 TPT) This
revelation was so important to John that he reiterated it three verses later. “Moses gave
us the Law, but Jesus, the Anointed One, unveils truth wrapped in tender mercy.” (John
1:17 TPT) Jesus embodied mercy and truth, calling His disciples to embody these two
core values. Embracing these two values will trigger a radical reformation in Christian
discipleship. This four-week course offers eight training sessions to ground disciples in
the biblical theme of hesed va emet.
